Aquatechnex biologists will be assisting a number of agencies in their mission to reduce and/or mitigate phosphorus pollution in the Canyon Lake System. A Total Daily Maximum Load or TMDL can be established for a lake when it is listed as impaired by a state or federal agency. This lake receives runoff from a number of sources and these groups have combined to fund restoration efforts to address the problem of excessive phosphorus loading. There will be two treatments focused in September and February for the coming few years. Alum will be used, this technology strips phosphorus from the lake water column and can seal lake sediments. The project will begin the week of September 23rd.
