Many of our Western Reservoirs that are heavily impacted with invasive aquatic weeds such as Eurasian Milfoil and Brazilian Elodea experience periods of drawdown during the winter and spring months. During these times of year, the lake bottom is exposed. SePRO Corporation recently completed a number of trials with their new herbicide Galleon applied to the lake bottom during these dewatering periods. The herbicide is applied to the lake bottom and acts as a pre-emergent herbicide when the invasive aquatic weeds try to emerge from the lake bed during the spring and summer after the lake is filled back up.

SePRO has reported excellent results against Eurasian Milfoil using this technology. The key is getting it applied evenly to the lake bottom. The Marshmaster system is unequalled in accomplishing this task. This Ultra Low Ground Pressure equipment is equipped with a boom and Precision Application Guidance systems. Galleon is applied in the spring generally just before reservoir fill. Galleon can be used with no water use restrictions.
The major benefit of this system is that operators do not have to place herbicides in the water column to accomplish the same mission. When water flow limits contact and exposure times, many of these treatments do not perform as well. There is no need to restrict water uses for irrigation using this technology. You can also focus your plant control efforts to high use/high impact areas such as swimming beaches to protect swimmers.
Galleon when applied in a drawdown situation is extremely cost effective, it can be performed in the off season when the impact on recreation and other water uses are minimized and it provides excellent control of Eurasian Milfoil. For more information please contact [email protected].
