WA Legislator Bill Will Force Costs of Invasive Species Management Much Higher

Washington House Bill 1074 has been introduced to the Washington Legislature because a small number of residents on Haven Lake were opposed to an aquatic herbicide treatment performed by NW Aquatic Ecosystems this past summer.  This bill will require applicators to send certified mail notices to all homes and businesses within a 1/4 mile of an application to target these plants.  This will drive the cost of doing this work up dramatically.  Aquatic heribicides are often the only effective means of managing Eurasian Milfoil and other noxious weed species.  The current state NPDES permit for this work has a very effective notification process in it.  We would encourage people in Washington State to contact their legislators and opposed this measure.
