Killer Amoeba in Lake Havasu, AZ

We came across this story on Fox News and wanted to make sure to pass it on to our readers.  While there are very few attacks by this species each year, it is always fatal.  This species of amoeba apparently enters through the nasal cavity and then attacks and eats the brain.  Once in, the victim has about two weeks to live.  While the risk of exposure seems to be very low, this is something that should be known to those of us that frequent lakes in the Southwest.  The experts warn to stay away from warm water with algae mats present.  One more reason to treat.  This story is of interest, click to read more.,2933,298338,00.html
